Cardboard Furniture Progress

I have chosen to create a piece of cardboard furniture since I have always wanted to do it as a project. Thankfully, I also have an excessive amount of cardboard at my house just waiting for its time to shine. My current concept is for a bookshelf that doubles as a night stand. However, I might make a multi-functional bookshelf and chair combination since the idea of a load-bearing cardboard structure interests me.

  • This looks like it will be quite the challenge! Don’t be afraid to start by experimenting with different structures to see what works best before trying to build the whole thing. I can’t wait to see how it turns out.

I’m excited to see if you can get good structural support out of layering the cardboard like this. If so, I think it will certainly follow a minimalist or Ikea-like aesthetic (if you can maintain sharp, clean edges and seemingly easy-to-use shelves). I think that cardboard itself lends a cool re-used or industrial aesthetic, but painting the whole thing white out definitely help establish the “clean” look that you seem to be shooting for.

  • Yes, but what will the aesthetic be? Go crazy!
