Liquor Bottles to Cups

For my upcycling project I will be taking used liquor bottles and spaghetti sauce jars and turning them into cups and other useful items.  The idea originally came from when my roommates and I did not have many cups and we started using old Prego sauce jars as cups.  Shortly after I stumbled across a Reddit post where a someone used a glass bottle cutter to make cups out of old liquor bottles.

Here are a few empty bottles I found in our recycling and in front is the glass cutter.  It is easily adjustable to accommodate bottles of various size and is quite easy to use.

This is what the end product will hopefully look like.

I haven’t started yet, will get it done over the weekend.

I’ve cut a few bottles before, but I used a different system than you. I really like this idea because the cups can come out really nice and usable. With the cups that I made, I sanded the lips so that they looked like etched glass when they were done. That might be something you can experiment with. Good luck! I can’t wait to see them!

  • Great idea, I think it will be a really cool aesthetic! Any painted bottles you can find might also look really cool as well. Or maybe you could paint them yourself?
I’ve tried this with some more rudimentary tools and methods and it only came out so-so, but it looks like you’ve got a much better system. I will also be curious to see how you make the lip smooth and curved, that will be really cool! Can’t wait to see them!

This is such a cool idea! I can’t wait to see how they turn out and I am excited to work on the project with you over the weekend :-p I’m curious to see how you are able to make the top part of the glass so smooth looking and curved like it is in the picture.
