Jakob’s Skills

As far as engineering student credentials go, I’m confident in my SolidWorks Skills, and slightly less confident in my Inventor skills.  I’m very confident in my Matlab abilities, and am pretty good with all of the standalone ITLL station equipment (function generator, oscilloscope, power supply).  I’m in mechatronics this semester, so I’m feeling pretty fresh on my circuits skills as well.

I worked in maintenance for a few summers, so I’m pretty good at painting walls, replacing air filters, changing toilet seats, and spackling.  I also worked in the produce department of a grocery store, so I can pick out ripe watermelon, tell if the apples are last year’s crop, and stack pears (actually pretty tough to do).

I’m also very familiar with a number of DAWs including Ableton, Logic, Reason, and Garageband.  I’m also proficient in Max, which is a visual programming language for music and other media.  I like trouble-shooting in general, so even if I don’t have a solid understanding of the constituents of a problem, I’m always willing to try and figure out a solution – bringing in someone who knows nothing can be magic.

I can lift moderately heavy things, and run moderately fast.  I don’t know how to weld, but I do know how to hold things in place, which usually comes in handy when welding.  I know a lot about Super Smash Brothers (mostly Melee), and I’ve always been eerily good at I-Spy.

Noticed that you’re a DAW user. That is awesome. Funny though, you pretty much use every one in existence except for my preferred one: FL. It gets a bad rep because older versions of it didn’t have much functionality. However, the newer versions are fully equipped for professional use, and you really can’t beat it in terms of user-friendliness. Image-Line native plugins are super powerful too. Check out Sytrus and Harmor if you haven’t!

  • Oh good! I’ve always needed more help getting better at Super Smash! (But really though)

I don’t know if I needed to comment on our skill sets, but I’m really glad that you feel confident with circuitry and matlab since that’s basically my weakest points as I’m not great at coding.
