Rachel’s Design Project Inspirations

A few weeks ago I was looking for some inspiration for this design project and was having zero luck with finding something I actually wanted to make and would keep.  Somehow I managed to stumble across an Infinity Mirror and instantly knew that this would be my project.  The infinity mirror is a regular mirror taken apart and modified to reflect light back and forth much like having two mirrors placed facing each other does.  The modification involves taking an LED strip and adding a layer or two thick of the lights then apply a mylar film to a piece of glass that fits inside the frame.  The result is shown below.

I plan on creating this but programming the lights using raspberry pi to a specific song so that the interaction is more dynamic and visually mind blowing.  I am also considering adding a center piece to the mirror to add an additional 3D element.  An example of one can be seen below.

What I am still working on/figuring out is if I want to match this to a certain aesthetic theme we went over in class.  There are a ton of options to customize the frame to fit that aesthetic or the centerpiece could easily match it as well. But the first challenge will be programming the song, then I will tackle the rest.

Enjoyed seeing this design evolve. If you have interest in continuing with future projects of this nature, I think it would be cool to experiment with different concave/convex shapes and different mirror arrangements, angles, etc. to see if there is anything else to be discovered with this infinity effect!

Yessss this is awesome, do it! Sync it up to some electronic music – it could be a prototype for a club!
