Skills and Aspirations

I have a fairly well-rounded set of skills that include:

  • Mechanical, graphic, and motion graphic design. I am experienced in the design cycle, from initial ideation, to prototyping, to refining a finished product. I have been using SolidWorks for around 4 years now, and have built large, complex models. I have over 10 years of experience with many of the programs in the Adobe Suite, as well as wide ranging experience across video editing software. For my latest project I am currently working in programs such as Cinema 4D and Adobe After Effects. I am also a capable machinist.
  • I have a fair amount of experience building and programming microcontrollers. I study computer science, and I am familiar with languages such as Python and C++. I have also worked in web development for around 10 years.
  • I have a degree in business, and I am experienced in topics ranging from negotiation to business development to project management.

I am a person that enjoys opportunities to practice a wide range of skills in my work. I hope to be able to find positions that allow me to work on several simultaneous projects, and to switch disciplines between projects. I am looking into opportunities now to practice engineering consulting, where I believe that different projects would push me to use and refine various skill sets.

I am also very interested in the performance lighting industry. Besides working on personal projects in this capacity, I hope to be able to one day build large concert stages and special effects in a professional setting. I really enjoy the combined focus of design and engineering in this realm that I believe can leverage my mechanical and aesthetic design skills, as well as allow me to engineer physical hardware.

You seem to have a lot of experience in a lot of different areas, which will be very helpful to your teammates. Having experience in multiple design fields will really help with seeing multiple possibilities when creating a project.

  • Sounds like you’re the kind of guy people are going to want to have on their team! I’m interested in your business background and how you think it affects your engineering decisions. People always say that when you combine engineering and business its a recipe for success.

  • Performance lighting is pretty neat. Do you know Theo? He is a senior in Mech E that has a passion for lasers and light shows. Maybe a chance to network, if you don’t already know one another?

  • You have an extremely broad skill set, which makes sense seeing as this is your second undergrad degree. Having the business degree to go along with mechanical engineering gives you a unique perspective on a lot of projects and that would seem give you an advantage over people with similar aspirations. Engineering consulting would be a pretty awesome gig, as it would give you a lot of exposure to various projects and would broaden your skill set further.
