The totem with Rick wound up looking really great and it really shows how much effort you put into the project. I was very surprised to find out that you had sewn the Rick doll yourself and to find out just how much of the project you did entirely on your own. It ended up being something that would not look out of place at all at an EDM show, and I am sure and Rick and Morty fan would be really excited about it! Great job!

Scott, great work on your final design. Honestly this project could have been low-effort bu you took it much farther and the extra efforts clearly paid dividends. It sounds like you got to leverage your aunt’s experience and embroidery equipment to climb that learning curve very quickly. I especially enjoy the addition of the fiber optic hair, as I think this really fits the eccentric nature Rick’s character.

    A couple notes and questions:
-Is he waterproof? You may simply ScotchGaurd the fabric so dye won’t bleed in the rain.
-In lieu of stitching the LEDs into the fabric CA adhesives (super glue) work well with silicone and can be rigid or flexible. I’m using a flexible CA in a medical device and it is very flexible and robust.

Your project motivation is awesome, this will look awesome at EDC. Your project is unique in that you built and configured concurrently. I can imagine this being tricky to complete. The reactive lights are amazing, both with the LEDs on the body, and the fiber optics on the totem’s head. I’m overall really impressed with the amount of time and energy you put into this project. If you were to do this project again, how long do you think you would spend building it? It really turned out great!

The amount if time that you spent on this really shows in the outcome. It looks and works incredible and seems like you got the exact outcome you wanted.

  • First off, your presentation looks very good and organized, I like the powerpoint theme you went with because it has a bunch of different colors and fonts. I like that you went with the psychedelic theme. I think that for your specific purposes, it will look the best and fits the best. Is 5 lbs heavy to carry around at a concert all day? I like the fiber optic hair you decided to make, it is going to look awesome with all of the music and other lights that they have at the concert. You spent lots of time on this project, if you were to make it again, what would you do differently to eliminate hours. That is super cool you made him waterproof. Will the power on him last all three days? Great Job Scott!

Scott, nice job on this project! Very well done and I love the Rick and morty theme! It was great to see your project progression, from defining your constraints to fabricating the final product. Very detailed presentation on this whole process. Also, great videos showing all your testing of the lights. Did it really take that long to create? The final totem definitely shows it which is great to see. Wonderful to see how committed you were!

  • Really great idea, Rick and Morty is fantastic. Super creative and it’s awesome that you’re making something you will use. I like that you ended up making it react to sound. The final looks fantastic. It’s insane how much time you put into this. Really really great job!

I like how you incorporated a couple different aesthetics into this totem. The fact that you used embroidery + photoshop is very cool and it is noticeable how much time and effort you put into this project. Also, very clean and clear presentation! Great Job!
