Hi Faisal! Great job on this project. The 3D printed part looks really good with the intricate cutouts you did. I really enjoy the aesthetic you chose. It’s an aesthetic that’s always been appealing to me for some reason. There’s just so much derived from nature– from the curvature of the lines to the patterns. I also liked how you made a separate top for a real candle; although I would suggest a different material if you want to have that option. But overall, very cool and nice job!

The aesthetic you chose for your project was intriguing and beautiful! I really liked that you used so many different colors in the candle holder so that it was a more dynamic shadow it produced. I would say that you should make one bigger so that it can be the centerpiece of a group of furniture. Great work!

I really like how your final product turned out. I like the inspiration that you drew from the arabesque. Like Blake has suggested I think using a finishing technique on the printed part would add to the aesthetic. Great work!

Faisal I think your final product turned out great. The idea and design really evolved in detail since the initial prototype and I really like the patterns you chose. They certainly fulfill the arabesque look you were going and they are very interesting to look at. The black color you chose works well because it provides great contrast so you can really see the edges of the design. Great work!

I actually like the black color, I think it makes the colors from the light really pop. The pattern you made is also very congruent with your chosen aesthetic. I do think that the 3d printers in the ITLL are not calibrated very well, if you want to get a higher quality print, I would go to the prototyping lab in the Idea Forge, the printers in there are well maintained and calibrated resulting in a much nicer finished product. Also if you would like to smooth the exterior and make it shiny and nice. Look into finishing methods for 3d printing. I have heard of acetone washes and other methods that make the finished product smooth and glossy.

    Hi Faisal
I’m taking these notes as I watch your presentation. Here are a few thoughts:
-what are ‘the shapes of design’ on your intro slide?
-when you assign attribution to pictures, it would be good if you could do it in the same slide, So we can see which pictures are from where.
    -The arabesque is really beautiful
-I like the nature connection that you made to your design
-how did you choose the hexagon shape?
-6 colored films: do the colors themselves have any significance in the design?
-I would say that “successfully showing the design on the sides” is actually an achieved functional goal, so is having enough light. Artistic goals might be like the contrast of the design on the sides or the quality of light coming through.
    – how are you going to use it?
    -references on your slides?

    Thanks for a great presentation!
