This want my intro into the grunge aesthetic. I found it quite fascinating and I love that youre out to make a statement! Personally I would not try to get on the moon-skates because I lack the motor-skills! I liked you presentation on how you made it and the different iterations you had!
I love the transition from functional product to commentary on the skater lifestyle and priorities—which often appear to value style over safety. Yes, it’s too bad that this isn’t an actually usable product, but it’s certainly dangerous and turning that into a cultural statement by amplifying the gaudy and grungy aesthetic was a wise move, I think. No need to get disappointed about that reorientation… although I definitely think there are ways to make that statement a bit more evident (perhaps by finding a way to treat this piece as though it were in a gallery).
Good job on your project!! Its too bad that you decided not to make something functional (because moon skates would have been awesome) but I really like that you focused on the aesthetic of your project instead. I think the grunge aesthetic of the 90s matches your childhood admiration of skateboards and moonshoes. It turned out looking really good!
I really like the idea! It seems like something out of a cartoon! I like the grunge aesthetic, I feel like you can find beauty in the chaos. I wish it was functional! Could use a little more support under the Tupperware to support your weight.
Great idea to make something that looked inherently bad. In my opinion, aesthetic is something that incites any emotion, rather than something that incites a good feeling. Use of duct tape is the best way to make something look bad, and you nailed it. Your moon-skates look really bad, in a good way! Nice Job!
This is a cool project, I love that you got the skateboard aesthetic down. I would have liked to see it work though because it seems like a really cool idea. Old skates used to have a little brake in the front that would improve the functionality of your design too and make it usable.
I like your detailed description of the fabrication process. Especially your different iterations and attempts at creating the various aesthetics.
Combining those two awesome toys from your childhood was a great and innovative idea for your final project. The grunge aesthetic was a good choice for your final artifact. It’s a good blend between the skate community and clothing.
