Drawstring T-Shirt

My upcycle project is based on the t-shirt design above. I felt inspired by the design because when I was in high school I would wear a shoe lace belt instead of a normal belt. A regular belt holds up better but I liked the style of the shoe lace belt more. It gave more of an urban/edgy appearance. When a few of my favorite cinematographers released this product I knew this was something I needed.

I am going to create something similar with one of my plain white shirts and probably a white shoe lace. I have made small progress but need to be able to open up a whole on the bottom of the shirt to feed the lace through. Once I have this figured out, the next step will to be to sew down the shoe lace and adjust the length of the lace properly.

This project is intriguing because it’s pretty simple, yet there is a fashion statement involved, at a relatively cheap price.

  • Jared,

This post was very intriguing to me. Do you find yourself creating or wearing recycled clothing often? How much experience with sewing do you have? I have generally found sewing very difficult so I would be very intrigued to learn more about the process.

    Thanks!

I think this is a cool idea Jared and I really like the shirt, so I’m excited to see how this turns out. I saw your post about the company from last week and think it’s really unique. It’s cool that you are drawing inspiration from both the company’s designs and also your past fashion choices. You could even recreate this photo when you’re done, if you’re into photography at all.
