Upcycle Progress: Miniature Landscape

I have always been interested in miniature-style art. I have seen it a lot in both movies and in real life. One thing that I always been interested in is when major companies have 3D models of miniature cities. This really caught my eye because it is really interesting that those companies use these models to visualize an actual project that is about to happen, almost like a prototype. However, even after those projects get completed, the miniature form is considered an artform; very aesthetically pleasing as it is very detailed and addicting to look at and analyze.

My inspiration for this upcycle project was to create a miniature type of look/artwork. While I was researching this, I came across a form of miniature art revolving plants where people use them to decorate their house or yard. Even though my plan is not to make a gardening project, I found it really interesting how people can use broken/useless products and repurpose them for an aesthetic.

What I want to do for my project is to make a ‘miniature landscape’ on top of a broken bluetooth speaker I have sitting around. I didn’t throw it away because I thought it looked very nice with the wooden front. I want to cut the holes out of the speakers and transform the whole thing into a landscape/city. I am thinking of keeping the general aesthetic newspapers.

In the upcoming week or so, I will work on executing this concept. Since I have never done this before, I don’t think my final product will be nearly as good/detailed as the examples mentioned in this post. I will try my best though! Wish me luck, I will need it.

I love this idea. It’s super creative and you can do so much with it. I would be a little overwhelmed with how many choices I would have. I’m a little confused on what you mean that the general aesthetic is newspapers. Will the city be made of newspapers? Or will the cityscape just look like newspapers with the color scheme, words, etc.

  • I like the idea and the overall concept you’re trying to implement. Given your materials I’d recommend finding some kind of block or pillar-esque structures to support your buildings. The three circular indents seem ideal for vertical towers of some sort, you could try to create a more Manhattan style city, opposed to the small towns you have in your example pictures.
