For my upcycle project I created an image with upcycled materials. I used plastic bottles to create an ocean and symbolize the problem with ocean plastic and the detrimental effects it plays on the ecosystem. I created an image of an island using cardboard, paper, and artificial leaves to overall create a palm tree. It was interesting to see the plastic deform as heat was applied using a hot glue gun. This helped create an aesthetic appearance of the ocean when reflecting light. Overall I enjoyed utilizing resources from around the house and in the recycling bin to create an upcycled image.

You had a brilliant idea of making a piece to highlight the impact that plastic has on our oceans and using that material as water. I think you could’ve kept with that theme to create the other parts of your project with different colored plastic bottles.
The meaning behind this project is important. Using littered materials to represent something found in nature adds a layer of complexity of how we are affecting our planet.

My favorite part of your project is that you used art to speak about one of the most critical problems our society has today, Im glad you talked about plastic pollution as there isn’t enough support towards the problem. My second favorite part of this project was your inspiration from Sponge Bob’s bikini bottom island, I have to say you nailed the look. I enjoyed your presentation overall.
I thought your project had an interesting concept to it. You were saying during your presentation that you wanted to add on to the project by incorporating mountains to the back and some other things and I think it would look really nice and add to the trash into art vibe.
Wow Brandon, what a neat take on using art to convey a message! I was considering doing something similar with plastic bottles, like if I used enough bottles to carry the mineral oil needed to manufacture and ship them.
Hey Brandon, I can really get behind your upcycle project. You had a good mission and while your project is pretty simple I can you put a lot of thought into it. I am curious have you thought about manipulating the plastics some other way?
I really liked your concept, and the look of the water is quite interesting and unique. In terms of final product, I feel like the island, both in terms of material and overall look, clashes with the smooth, effectiveness of the plastic. I think moving forward, you might want to use only plastic, like Tyler mentioned. Or just removing the island all together and having a larger water-scape. There’s lots of potential with this idea, I really like it!

Your project was really interesting. The entire idea behind what you made is really cool and the final project looks good (it doesn’t look like a third grader made it). I think that if you were to continue adding to this project then you could collect things that you found on the ground and add them to the picture. It could show the type of things that people are littering the earth with and use it to make your project bigger. I also was thinking you should maybe use the rule of thirds when creating something that brings your eye to it.
I really like connecting the issue of having plastic in the ocean with your design. Making the ocean out of plastic is beautiful. It is very smart and inspiring. Good work. I agree with you regarding adding other materials to your design will make it looks a lot better.
I never thought plastic can express water. It actually is the metaphor of pointing out the plastic wastes in the ocean. At the same time, the art piece of plastic ocean tells me to upcycle the plastic more to create something beautiful like this.
