Skill Sets & Personal Aspirations

I am a mechanical engineering student currently in my senior year. Throughout my undergraduate career I have learned many new skills from coding to fabrication. I am particularly good at building things once I’ve thought out it’s design, I usually like incorporating math into my designs as I find it to be helpful when I want to be very precise.

I’m a very good team player and enjoy working with people on projects, I’m not a talkative person, so you mostly will only hear me comment when I have something to say. When I work on a project I strive for the best and ideal solution, but at the same time I am a realist, so I know perfection cannot be attained but striving for it almost always leads to the best results in any situation.

What I hope to learn from this class is how to design and create something which will appeal to the audience I am trying to reach, but not in the way you may think. What I want to learn are the subtle elements you add to a design like sharp vs smooth corners, or a glossy vs matte color for example which can change peoples’ perception of a product. This “intuition” I am trying to gain can be very useful to me in my personal and professional lives as having an intuition into what appeals to people is invaluable.

Yousef, it’s awesome that you strive for perfection even though you know it is not attainable. It’s also pretty cool that you like to incorporate math in your designs as I’m sure is not a popular interest. You have good aspirations when it comes to aesthetics, though I’m a little confused when you said, “create something which will appeal to the audience I am trying to reach, but not in the way you may think.” What is the way that most people think?
