Top 5 Constraints: Shadow Art

source

As I mentioned earlier, for my final project I will be playing around with shadow art. I am planning on making different shadows silhouettes from the same object. In hopes of achieving that, I think I will be facing some design constraints:

  • Finding/making an object that casts different shadows from different angles.
  • Making the shadows relate to each other by telling a story or symbolize greater concepts.
  • Having either the light or the object move in the right frequency that allows the viewer to see a shadow art most of the time.
  • Some Servos and Arduino code might be a necessary addition for the success of this project.
  • A power source must be present all the time for the artwork to work and be displayed properly.

  • Hey Hadeel, I think your project is going to turn out extremely well, but that is if you give yourself enough time! This project seems like it will require a lot of adjusting and testing, but it also looks like it is going to be very fun to work with. This project demands a lot of creativity, so I am excited to see what you produce.

  • Hadeel, I like that you are combining a couple aesthetics with culture. The sharp edges with calligraphy and shadows will look really cool! I agree that laser cutting will be the best. I am excited to see the story that you choose to tell!

I would say Arduino and story telling is the most difficult constraint you have. I believe in you that you can do it!

  • Hi Hadeel,
Once again this is a very unique and cool project idea. So far I like the constraints that you listed but maybe you can go a little more in-depth with each one. For example, instead of saying you will find different objects for different shadows you should talk about some of the calculations you will use to figure out the shadow length/ height. Overall, this is a cool idea and I’m excited to see where you go with this!
