Design Review Report 2019: Auto Pet Feeder

I will use wood for the base of my design. I might use laser cutter for the gate of the device. I want the arduino and all the wires to be hidden to improve the aesthetic of the device. I will use the sticker machine to print something that indicates that this is for Ashely (my friend’s cat). The device will be in the living room and using wood will be perfect.

Below is what I will basically do to make it work but I will work on my own aesthetic.

Nice functional idea. I’ve thought of making a auto pet feeder myself to make my life easier. What aesthetic are you looking to express?

I love the functionality of this project and how it’ll help out the animal you live with. Often times, it’s hard to feed the proper amount and on a correct schedule but this project will definitely eliminate those issues.

  • Such a great idea! I need this for my cat at home. He’s always begging for food! There may be some complicated Arduino code involved, but I’m sure you’ll figure it out along the way. Look forward to seeing the finished product!

hmmm… have you thought about implementing the exposed aesthetic? where objects have a transparent outer cover to show the electronics and inner structure of the design, just like the old GameBoy we used to play: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0162/0510/products/2017-12-03_8_01_33.jpg?v=1512275321
I think it would look cool for your project.

I love this idea Fatema! I have a cat at a home and this is 100% something I would buy for him. I’m interested to see how you incorporate your aesthetic, but I know it will turn out great! Good luck!

  • I like your idea! I have a cat as well. It’s definitely going to be learning curve if you didn’t have experience with Audrino. I think it’s pretty cool to build a device for your pet. Good luck! For aesthetics you might wanna print/paint some artworks on the device.

  • I like the way you get inspiration from! A auto-feeding system for cat is quite functional and it will benifit a lot for both of you and your cat. For the aesthetic concern, mayebe you could get some inspiration from your roommate.

I think a painted exterior for your project could make a nice aesthetic. You said your friend is a painter. Perhaps she could help you with the aesthetics of your project.

I love the idea of creating your own automatic pet feeder with an arduino. There are times when you cannot feed your pet on time and it’s important to maintain a proper feeding schedule. This would mitigate any issues with that!

  • I love the idea. My dogs we worry about being able to feed on a timely basis if we are out all day cthis would be perfect for them! It is cool you may incorporate the laser mini game in. I’m a little confused on what the aesthetic is. Could you clarify?

I really like the functionality of this project! I definitely think you need to refine what the aesthetic will be and how you will apply it, but I think any aesthetic you choose will be a great fit. Looking forward to seeing the final project!
