Final Stretch for the Guillotine

According to my original timeline, my project should be done by now however, due to issues with the wood I had last week I wasn’t able to quite start. However, I have gone back and received the proper materials and can now construct my project. I am very excited to see how it will turn out of course.

As we near the end of the semester, I can’t help but look back at what I have learned about aesthetics in design. So many times in Engineering school, the classes only focus on the functionality of the design and it does not touch on the vital component that customers usually care about, how it looks. Aesthetics are very important and can sometimes be the deciding point for a customer to purchase a certain product or not, especially if the product is designed for residential retail. Many projects also focus solely on the functional design and therefore heavily restricts the aesthetic component due to time constraints. Having a project solely based on aesthetics is definitely freeing and invites us students to use our imagination, something I feel is not able to expressed very well in engineering school.

It is the freedom of design that has motivated me to want to work hard on this project and the fact that I do intend on showcasing this in my kitchen also helps greatly. I hope my idea will come to life and look great.

  • Got any photos to show how it’s coming? What are the aesthetics going to be?

Hi Shalil! I love this idea and you are clearly excited about it too, so I know it will end up great! I’m also right there with you with the motivation because we both have something that will be on display, so it is important for it to look nice. Good luck!

I totally agree with you on how freeing this class was! It’s also too bad that you have been set behind on your schedule. Do you think you will still be able to finish everything you thought you would for this project on time?
