Final Report Part 1- Candle

This project was inspired by my daily use of candles. I decided to make my own candles so I can be able to have different designs and smells along with cheaper prices. I started by going online and searching for different methods to create different designs of candles. Once I mastered the method, I went online and gathered the materials i needed for this project.

To complete this project I used

wax

Wicks

Mold

fragrance oil

The materials were fairly cheap. It cost me $ 24.

After I acquired the materials, I started the process of making the candles. First, I used a pan to heat the wax until it became totally liquid as shown in the pictures below.

Then, I poured some of the fragrance oil to the melted wax. After that, I poured the wax in the mold and waited tell it became solid (I lift it for a night but 1-2 hours is enough)

Finally, I took the wax out of the mold and got my candles.

I think you worked really well around the issues that you originally ran into. I just wish you had also incorporated the wick into the candle and could’ve demonstrated the candle burning to show off the dynamics of your project.

I don’t really understand where you went with this project. I understand that senior year is very busy but what other ways could you have made a candle without buying a mold?

It would have been nicer if you could managed to make your own mold. But, I understand the time management is hard during senior year. Great job!

i liked how you were able to find a new direction within your project vision. Have you thought about revisiting your old idea in the future and try to make the old style of candle you wanted to make before?

    Hi Ibrahim,
I think you did a great job on executing your project idea. I believe that it might greatly improve the aesthetic of your design if you made your own molds. This could be done by making a mold design and 3D print it. Additionally, you can also mix different wax colors together to enhance the aesthetic of your design.

  • I feel like this would have been an opportunity to learn something new and create your own mold rather than buying one online. The candle worked out nicely, but you didn’t have much influence on the aesthetic.

  • Similar to Andre’s project, I think you did a good job pivoting from where you started in your initial ideas and delivering a project that looks clean and cohesive despite not being what you intended.

Ibrahim, I thought that your candle looked good. I was wondering what the dynamic element of your candle is other than the burning? In addition, why did you decide to stray from your original idea of the spiral candle.
