Top 5 Constraints: Pipe Furniture

For my project idea of creating furniture out of industrial pipe, I will have to contend with a number of challenges. The first constraint I will need to deal with will be financial. I want to create this project out of threaded pipe in order to ensure structural stability but the cost of using a large amount of this material will likely increase quickly as I begin to expand my design. The next constraint will be time. It will take a good portion of time to assemble the pipe frame, but more than that, it will take a long time to properly weave the rope into the frame to give the couch a platform to sit on. The third constraint for this project will be size. The project will have to be small and light enough to transport to different rooms around a house as well as bringing to presentations yet also large enough to be functional as a couch. The fourth constraint will be my chosen aesthetic of industrialism. This aesthetic constrains the materials I will be able to use to create this project. My final constraint will be durability. I want this project to last and be around for a very long time so the materials and design of how I assemble it will be very important to creating this finished project.

This is a really cool idea. I would have never thought to use pipe in a chair like this. What would you use for the “cloth” material? Where did you come up with this idea? I agree, size will definitely be a constraint to consider.
