Aesthetic Roots – Simplicity

Da Vinci quote about simplicity [White Edition] Art Print by ...

My aesthetic roots are definitely grounded around the main aesthetic and overall idea of “Simplicity.” Exactly as stated by Leonardo Da Vinci, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” I truly believe in this statement along with the beauty found in simplicity.

Not only is simplicity an aesthetic, but it is a way of life that I aspire to achieve daily. The world around us in this modern age is constantly and overtly complex. This complexity will only continue and evolve as time progresses as well. To combat the this inevitable entropy, it is calming and relaxing to create simple and elegant solutions to problems, designs, lifechoices, etc… to help control your life and not let it succumb to the madness of chaos and complexity that surrounds us every single second in our technological age.

Companies are aware of this as well. Apple is the perfect example in which there devices are simple to use, and elegant in their purpose. IPhones for example are so simple to use, that toddlers are quick to learn its functions, despite the fact that the actual technology behind “how” and “why” it works, is overtly complex. Yet, this is how we as humans, and as companies producing consumer products, can create the balance between complexity and simplicity. With the mindset of developing simple products, solutions, etc…

    Austin,

I also enjoy simplicity. The aesthetic is clean and sophisticated in my eyes. Things today are sometimes unnecessarily complex; sometimes the simple things are the best

  • Hi, Austin,

I like your choice of simplicity as your aesthetic root. I’m wondering if you could distinguish it with Minimalism. Do those two mean the same thing to you? Also, back to your idea of “this complexity will only continue and evolve as time progresses as well”, I don’t completely agree. I think the evolution of the world’s complexity is like a fashion, somethings, certain styles make its way back, while other times, other styles do. Maybe simplicity would make its way back soon again, or maybe the world that seems too complex to you is relevant simple than the next turn. Who knows?

    Best,

    Xiang
