Upcycle Progress | Cardboard Lamp

For my upcycle project I was inspired by some of the cardboard lamps that I have seen in the past. I remembered some of the cardboard art that I have previously made in a middle school art class. The art looked something like this:

I wanted to think of other ways to expose the inner “support” material that is the middle layer that makes up a cardboard. Out of necessity and curiusity, I googled cardboard lamps and to my suprise, there were numerous results that appeared. The two examples that I connected with the most are the two following images:

I plan on using the laser cutter in the ITLL to make all of the cuts that I will need for this project. I chose to use the laser cutter so that all of the cuts will be uniform and the piece will be symmetrical. I would like to try and combine both the functionality of the lamp and the aesthetic of exposing the “support” material underneath.

Seems like an interesting idea. You should look into using a LED light bulb that you can control from your cell phone via bluetooth. On some of them, you can also change the color and hue of the lightbulb. That could be a neat look and you could change it up as you see fit.

This is so cool! It doesn’t even look like cardboard. I would have never thought cardboard would look so polished, but I really love it. The cardboard gives a really nice earthy aesthetic to those lights. very neat! are you planning on making multiple lights or just one?
