Construction Timeline: Rick Totem

I have made a lot of progress in creating my project so far, and I estimate that I will need about a week to complete it. For more details about the project, please see my design review post.

The main components of the project can be broken down into: 1) creating the plushie Rick figure, 2) designing the lighting layout and affixing it to the figure, and 3) programming the lights and doing the circuitry calculations and work.

What remains on the list to complete the project:

  • I am nearly finished with the Rick figure, having sewn together the head and body fabric patterns. I still need to create the hair, and stuff the figure. ( 5 hours)
  • I have prototyped the lighting layout, and think I have a good design. Otherwise, I need to attach the lighting elements to the figure. (5 hours)
  • I have already created a good amount of code to run the lights, and I am still working making sound reactive programs. ( 3 hours)

I am planning to finish up these main components of the project by April 14th, leaving me about a week to take care of any final improvements.

Hey Scott, I am glad to hear your totem design has been coming to fruition since presenting a few weeks ago. I am excited to see the final fabrication and how everything takes shape. i know you’re well versed in the lighting and control electronics, but have you considered how a little road bump does propagate into lots of hours to fix it? You probably have a better understanding of the hours it should take but in my projects, it is the little issues that always seem to add up and steal my resources.

Sounds like you are making great progress! Having just a week to go should leave you a good amount of time to get all the kinks out before the end of the month. Can’t wait to see it functioning!
