For my project I had a few sources of inspiration. I had always grown up with a toothbrush holder in my bathroom that was free standing and held 4 toothbrushes. It was black and metallic and i always liked the look of it. It looked something like this.
Different colors obviously. As a young kid I would save any and every pen/pencil that came across my path. As i have gotten older i found out i much prefer to have quality over quantity. This means having one or two pencils, one or two pens (red and black or blue), one sharpie. Ect. I wanted to make a low volume simple clean pencil holder for my desk.

Great choice on building something functional, I took a similar approach to my project. Were you looking to design a pencil holder that was metallic or wooden like the one in the image? Should come out great either way.
It really sounds like you appreciate the finer things in life. With that in mind I feel like you should really consider using classy material to give it that elegant finish. Maybe a nice wood material or even a polished metallic finish. I like where this design is going
