Your project turned out great! I love how you added some gold to add aesthetics. Maybe you could have decorated the wood a little more and add the sliding drawer like how you wanted it. This would make a great mother’s day present for your mom and I’m sure she would love it.

Jimmy, the project’s visions and intentions were well though out and I think your current design could be able to inform the next revision to bring the final design to fruition. What would you do differently to enable the level of quality you think is appropriate for a gift? I really do hope you can fins the bandwidth to incorporate your lessons learned during this effort, to bring your goal of giving this as a gift to life!

The finished jewelry box came out looking alright, and the gold corners were a nice design feature. A few modifications for future designs could be including more drawers/sections or using some kind of stain or varnish on the outside to protect it from damage and give it more character. Overall, I liked the idea of making the project as a Mother’s Day gift and the motivation behind its construction. Good job!

Your project motivation is awesome, I wish I would have incorporated something for Mother’s Day especially since it is coming up soon. It is interesting to here that warping and cracking of the wood has been a common issue with these projects that have used thin wood. Do you think a thicker wood would significantly alleviate that issue? It’s awesome that you tried your hand at wood working since you’ve never really tried it before. Since you are not planning on gifting this to your mom anymore, do you pan on using lessons learned to make a new box?

I am sure your mom would love your handiwork 🙂 The features you included on the box, such as the elements of gold trim and the easy-to-open lid, make nice additions to the functionality of the jewelry box. It is interesting to see where you started from in your design, and then how you implemented the design in your final version. The shelf inside the box is also a nice feature to create some organizational space within it. How could you fix some of the cracks that emerged as you were building it? What would you do to change the design if you built another version? Great job!

Great final project! I like how sleek it looks and how your gold looking hinges and corners really fit in with the wood. It great to see your learning process and what you did end up learning about the project. Are you planning on etching anything into the wood? Might be great way to add something personal when you give it to your mom.

I like the gold corners that you decided to use the gold corners to make there be a small addition to the box. I also like the different sanding you did to make the box have a different looking slant and aesthetic to it and make it open easier. The inside of the box also looks good how there is a holder for the different types of jewelry and rings and other things you may want to store in there. The spots for the rings looks great and I like how you can take out the board or keep it in there. What do you think you could do in the future to make it so that the nails can stay within the wood? I think next time try a stronger wood and it will work great! Good job! I really like the different compartments inside the box.

I like the box, the finish looks really nice on the wood. I like the slant idea for the top of the wood. Warping really is a pain to deal with. The gold is a nice touch. Laser etching would definitely be a nice addition and it wouldn’t be too hard to do. This gives you a good place to improve from and to make something special for your mom.

I think the gold corners were a nice touch to the box. I also like the addition of the “hidden” compartment in the bottom of the box. If you were to redo this, would you want to do it with thicker wood? Overall, I think it was a great idea and think your mom will love it regardless!

I like how you took your up cycle project and improved upon it as a final project. I can imagine that instruments are very difficult to make as tolerances are very tight, so it makes sense that you could use your lessons learned from your up cycle project and apply them to a final project. The button and key system looks extremely complicated, nice job on keeping everything organized and making it functional! This doesn’t look like a traditional saxophone, does the shape of this affect the sound at all?
