Upcycle Progress: Board Game

My family is coming for my graduation and I decided to make a board game for them. It’s called Jakaroo and it’s a really good game. I decided to go with acrylic instead of wood because it’s lighter and it will take less time in the laser cutter.

I got the acrylic sheet and it’s 20x20x0.1″.

I also got the marbles and they’re 0.6″ in diameter.

I’m designing the board using SolidWorks and I will laser cut it soon. I will use spray paints to paint it. My family name means crescent and that’s what I’m planning to draw.

  • I really like this idea. I wish I had thought about this for my project. A board game is a really creative way to use upcycled material. The question any designer should ask themselves before making anything is whether or not somebody will find a use for it. You simply can’t go wrong with a board game, they’ll always be fun to play. It also seems like it’s gonna come out with some pretty great quality. I’m really excited to see how your project ends up and hopefully I get the chance to play.

    Fatema,
I really like the idea of making your own Jakaroo. The fact that you are making this game with the intention that you want to play it with your family adds sentimental value to the whole project which I think is priceless. I can’t wait to see how it turns out! I look forward to playing the game.

Hi Fatema! I think this is such a nice idea! I never thought to make a game and one that you can play with your family will be even more special. I also think it is really nice that you are drawing a crescent to represent your family. I’m excited to see how it turns out and maybe you can teach it to me too!
