Upcycle Inspiration: Fabric

After thinking more about my up-cycling project, I decided to let the fabric inspire me into a sketch that makes it serve a purpose. While looking at the clothings I had, I felt the Sherpa jacket lining was begging me to reincarnate it as a polar bear. I then quickly started sketching the bear. I needed a background that compliments the bear.

I, then, channeled the surreal collage images aesthetic and added mountains. I always thought this aesthetic to be fascinating and eye-catching and I think making a fabric version of this type of art will bring it to life. I thought this aesthetic is more fitting of the material used because of excessive use of layering contrasting colors.

Finally, I decided to use my Photoshop skills to fill in my sketch using the image swatches I had to make a prototype that looks like this:

    Hadeel,

I agree with Hussam, this idea is quite creative. Most people would think coloring only comes from paint but to use fabric creates a whole new realm. This prototype you created looks awesome. Excited to see your work!

    Hadeel,

I can’t get over how creative this idea is. The fact that you are using fabric as your coloring tool is amazing and really fitting for upcycling. Assuming you already thought of this, play around with the textures of the fabrics you have and how they feel. I’m guessing that was your intent for the polar bear, you’re probably using some soft wool to act is the fur. For the mountains, you can kinda interpret them as 3, right? What if you make each mountain follow a certain color scheme and texture. It would be really cool to have each one completely different in style yet looks like it belongs on the same painting. Really nice post.
