Upcycle Final Report: Paintstick Mirror

image_1

For my upcycle project, I created a piece that doubles as a mirror and an art piece for my room. My room started out very empty and with no decorations at all. My inspiration came from that emptiness of my walls so I decided to fill it with a paintstick mirror.

These are the only materials that I used to create my project. I found 4 wooden stakes instead of paint sticks to use since I liked the shape better. I also had an old mirror laying around. With that, I bought a tube of super glue and then started working. I messed around with the placement of the stakes for a while and finally found a pattern I liked. I wanted to deviate from the circular pattern and come up with something of my own.

This is my final product. Some further improvements I plan on having are to have the stakes painted a dark grey color for a calm aesthetic. Another improvement is to attach a little slot in the back so I can hang it on my wall to finish the aesthetic piece I set out to create.

  • Interesting idea to turn a functional product like a mirror into a pseudo art installation. Did you consider adding color to your piece?

  • Wow what an amazing piece of art! I can imagine more detailed intricacies emanating from the mirror. What if you attached those edible coffee straws to the mirror?

I liked your project idea. I would put the sticks in an angle to make it stand! I would also paint the woods to show the aesthetic. Mirrors never go wrong, good job!

  • The dark mirror attract me most in your upcycling project. That part adds a mysterious sense which makes a brillant touch above these paintsticks.

  • Really cool designed you managed to make with just 4 paint sticks. Do you think you may make another with more, or add on to this one? Great job with the project and I look forward to seeing a second version of this.

  • I liked how you changed an everyday thing into an aesthetic using an upcycled material. I think gray would look good on the sticks, and I like that you didn’t copy the circular look you were originally inspired by.

I really liked how you didn’t just make the circular shape with the mirror, as I’ve seen many mirrors that used the same shape so it’s cool that yours is different. I think it would be interesting to stain the wood stakes rather than paint them to keep the wooden aesthetic to the mirror.

I really like how you turned a mirror into a piece of art and were able to fill space on your wall. I also have a lot of trouble finding things to put on my wall that I enjoy. Its nice that this serves and function and is aesthetically pleasing. I sort of like the unfinished wood look, but maybe adding some more paint sticks. Or painting them, as you mentioned, would add a nice feel.
