Skills, Personal Aspirations

I have a lot of general “shop” experience – I know how to use power tools and how to work with metal and wood, simply put. This comes mostly out of necessity: if something needs to be fixed, I’d rather do it myself than leave it to someone else.

Outside of general DIY experience, I have the typical MechE skills: sketching, design and fabrication, SolidWorks, laser cutters, 3D printers, what have you.

I’m also decently experienced in circuit building, prototyping, troubleshooting, etc. I’ve built a handful of guitar pedals, some clones and others of my own design. I also worked on a clone of the legendary Interfax Harmonic Percolator distortion with a friend of mine, and we ended up with two iterations with different PCB layouts.

I’m comfortable with soldering iron in hand, and I’m confident in my abilities to design and implement simple circuits.

I’m definitely lacking in advanced manufacturing knowledge, that being CNC manufacturing, metal forming, welding, etc. I also don’t have a ton of creative experience, but that’s quickly changing as a result of this class. I’m excited to use this as an opportunity to gain some new skills, as well as see a truly personal project through to completion.

The projects you worked on seems very interesting and cool. I like working on projects that require electronics and circuits, and I am excited to work with you on the final project!
