Construction Timeline: Shi-Shi Odoshi

The construction of my water fountain will be pretty involved. I will need to buy a large acrylic box and cut it to the dimensions of my prototype and drill a hole for the water pump and a slot for the container support. Next, I will need to buy a PVC pipe and cut it at a 45 degree angle on one end and seal off the other. Next, I will attach the container to the supports and make sure it is able to rotate. Next, using extra acrylic or PVC pipe I will make a small, overhead sprinkler that will hide the hose that the water pump will be connected to. Finally, the last step will be to attach the pump to the acrylic base and begin testing the water fountain.

Expected Timeline:
Week of 4/1-4/7: Buy all necessary material and begin cutting everything to the desired dimensions.
4/3: Buy all necessary materials
4/6-4/7: Cut acrylic box and PVC pipe then drill hole for water pump and slot for container

Week of 4/8-4/14: Construction of the fountain
4/8-4/10: Attach container supports to base and install container on to supports
4/10-4/12: Attach overhead sprinkler to the base and make sure hose fits through it. Install water pump to base.
4/12-4/14: Test the functionality of the fountain and spray paint the whole project with metallic paint.

This is a relatively involved project, but you seem to have a good handle on how you’d like to break it down to realistically get it done on time. I also think that leaving a week of cushion time is a great idea in case things don’t go as planned.

  • From my perspective, the rotation part maybe the most challenging part of you project. I recommend you to plan more time for this process

This a cool idea for your final project. It seems like you have a good plan for how to finish your shi-shi odoshi successfully and on time. Make sure you know all of your lead times for any parts being ordered because that can really delay a project if the materials needed are delayed.

I like the idea of the water fountain as the sound of water crashing down sounds very soothing and induces a calm feeling. Have you tested what height would be optimal for the water fall as to not to splash the water outside while getting a nice consistent waterfall sound?
