Final Report Part 2: Magnetic Makeup Organizer

For my final project, I created a magnetic makeup organizer to keep my go-to makeup decluttered and easy to grab. I like how it turned out, but there are some recommendations I would make for future iterations. First, I would make the whole thing bigger because I have tons of makeup and have found this to be a useful way to keep it all organized. It is perfect for the space I am in now, but I’ll be moving in just a few weeks where I’ll have more room and will likely repeat this project with a bigger board. Next, I would use a sturdier frame because this one is a little flimsy. I have not experienced any issues with it yet, but fear that I might in the future. I would also love to try this with different lights with different colors. I think I could get a brighter light and play with different aesthetics the next time around, just for fun. It works exactly how I wanted it to and looks really nice where I have it set up. While I was inspired by the high-tech aesthetic, I would not necessarily classify the aesthetic of my project as high-tech, mainly due to the bright yellow light. This takes away from the grunge aspect the high-tech aesthetic often encompasses. Nevertheless, I enjoy the personalization into it because the cheery, yellow light fits better with my own personality. I have learned in this course that not everything fits perfectly into one category of aesthetic and that’s what makes it really cool and unique. After taking these pictures shown above, I made a few adjustments to my project and I’m really excited to show it off at expo!

This was a fun project to see at the class expo. I always have space issues with my makeup and I’m constantly loosing brushes, mascara, ect. I may try to make something like this myself! The only think is I think adding a few more magnets(or getting stronger magnets) might keep the products from slipping down. Good job creating something you can use in your everyday life and making it your own!

I loved your idea a lot. I might replicate it when I get back home and make a Victorian/gothic version of the makeup board. I love how it is easily customizable too. You can decorate it using any magnet or even make your own magnets. I’m excited to see the alterations at Expo.

I really enjoyed seeing your project during presentations! I think your future intentions for this project are great. It would be really cool if you fixed all the little things that weren’t quite as you hoped they’d be. This would give you an awesome finished product. Honestly, this is something you could consider selling, as I’m sure many people would want something like this in their room! Great job with the project and in the class.

    Danielle,
Your project turned out so neat and clean. You made a good choice with choosing a black background which added a lot to the aesthetic of your design. I agree that making a bigger version is a good idea. Have you thought of adding a small mirror with some LEDs to have your organizer as a makeup mirror as well?
