Upcycle Progress: EDM Mainstage Model

Following the comments from the previous post, I decided to incorporate gaming as a theme for the mainstage similar to how festivals have nature or a themed festival. For this, I took apart an old controller and added it as a DJ controller which is basically where the producers and DJs mix their music live.

In the picture above you can see that I decided to use water bottles to make the people dancing around and be the DJ. However, the project is lacking the colorful aesthetic that the festival’s main stages usually have. Yet, I was able to find an old pair of headphones to create the speakers and managed to get the flashing light from the controller to project onto the mainstage.

I hope I am able to incorporate more color in these following weeks from recycled paint or other plastic bottles that are not clear. I plan to draw on the screens the main stage would normally have but hopefully, the lights and colored plastics will create the festival aesthetic I am aiming for. The strobe light effect only lasts for a couple of seconds and the speakers will have to connect to a phone device. To add more color, I plan to use old paints I have around to color the controller and the cardboard to create that festival vibe. I was unable to find any item I can upcycle to create a laser effect so I plan to omit any laser lighting.

Thank you for taking the time to read about my progress!

Hi Alex, I think this project is very creative, and I like how you used all of your resources to make this. I was wondering if you were planning on adding some color to the cardboard, and also, if you were, if it would match the blue of the “speakers.”

    Hi Alex,
This is a great project that really highlights your interests. I liked how you used the plastic bottles to create the dancers because it was a creative way to “upcycle” a common item most of us have laying around. I was wondering if you could use “fairy lights” (the tiny string of lights that are usually battery operated) to add more color to your people and model. I cannot wait to see if the different colored plastic changes the appearance.
