light and dark main project inspirations

For my final project I am planning to try to incorporate a special extra black paint. I think that it will be an interesting combination with trying to incorporate something dynamic into my project. The reason that I am thinking about using this is that I think that if I have certain parts of my project covered in the extra black paint while others are not I think that I may be able to create an interesting depth effect.

One of the things I am still trying to figure out is what exactly I want to paint. I want to choose and object that is both interesting, but also a good shape and material too paint. In the upcoming weeks I plan to continue to brainstorm on this topic.

Another thing that I am still trying to decide is how to make my project dynamic. One idea that I have had is possibly buying or trying to build some type of display stand.

I think something like this could create an interesting dynamic effect. Although the ones that I have found are fairly small so a purchased one could possible limit the size of the object I am using.

Overall I still have quite a bit to figure out with my project overall. The things that I want to focus on in particular are what object I want to paint, how I want to create a dynamic movement, and what additional elements could I add to my project to increase its interest. I am hoping that after I figure out my object and my dynamic movement I can find a final element to add to my project to give it some extra flair.

    Hey Andrew,
I’ve seen these types of paints used before and they can be used to make some very cool pieces of art. I’m very excited to see what you end up creating using it. Like Michael mention, having the stand be rotating could make for a good dynamic component. You could add in the motors yourself or get a stand that already moves on its own. I look forward to seeing the object you end up deciding to paint and good luck!

In terms of the rotating stand I am definitely leaning towards just purchasing separate motors myself because I think It will give me more options on creating different sized stands verse a purchased one.

Hey Andrew, so fascinating how this plaint reflects almost no light. Without any glares or contours the components truly look 2D. If you paint an object with this black paint and have it rotate, I’m sure it will have some interesting affects on the eye. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

The 2D verse 3D effect that you mention is one of the main effects I am hoping to achive, I plan to try to iterate on my painting method in order to get the best effect.
