Black and white alternative aesthetics

For my project I am planning to incorporate a white and black aesthetic. The way I am planning to do this is by using a special extra black paint and painting that on one half of a mannequin head that will be rotating. As well, I plan on using LED lights to get extra contrast effects.

One way I could do this in a different aesthetic is instead of using white and black I could try to incorporate a very vibrant aesthetic and use two very bright colors. I think that this would create a pop art style look and make the project very bold.

In the opposite of making the project brighter I could also paint the mannequin extra white and make the lights around it a very bright white. This would create a minimalist look for the project. I think that this would make the project look very modern.

Ultimately I plan to keep my original black and white aesthetic. I think that it will give the best depth effects with the LED lights I am planning to use, and personally I enjoy the white versus black look.

  • Hey Andrew,

I am very intrested to learn more about your project, it definitely sounds like a unique idea. I think two very bright colors that contrast heavily could be super cool, this was neat to think about. I personally really like the color pop combo of like cotton candy blue and pink, just something to think about. Doing bright colors would definitely change the whole aesthetic of your project versus just black and white, even though those colors are opposites too. I think that with sticking with the black and white, incorporating the LED’s for extra pop is definitely a good idea. I’m curious now, what is the mannequin head doing exactly? Is this more of an artistic statement sort of piece or is there a functionality to it?

The mannequin head does not have any functionality in particular. My goal is to just try to portray an engaging combination of lights and colors. I am considering switching to something other than a mannequin head that could be better at conveying this.

    Hi Andrew!

I love the idea of using LED lights to even more exemplify the black and white aesthetic and the contrast it creates! When you are discussing alternatives for the black and white the first thing that came to my mind was neon colors. I think neon is it’s own aesthetic and could be cool to see bouncing off of LED lights. However, I think neon and/or black white are both great aesthetics and you can’t go wrong with either. Good luck as you begin constructing this project!

I am hoping by using the LED lights I will be able to incorporate both the black and white and the neon colors aesthetic as you mentioned. I think that they will combine together in a interesting way.
