Aesthetic Experimentation for Simplistic Chair Design

I’ve been experimenting with a few different aesthetics for my chair design in the range of wabi-sabi Japanese wood to a metal welded look. Most of my designs maintain a sharpness and balance while there is sometimes a change in materiality. The design that I think is the most feasible a layered plywood structure with a potential metal sheet attached to the face in which the user sits on.  Let me know which design you all find the most appealing both aesthetically and functionally!

    Hi Rishi
The use of layered plywood provides strength and durability while also creating a visually interesting texture on the front face.
Great job on exploring different design aesthetics for your chair! I appreciate the effort you’ve put into experimenting with various materials and styles.
I’m excited to see how your final design turns out!

I look forward to seeing how this project turns out, the concept sketches are really well done. How do you plan on assembling the pieces into a finished project?

  • Hi Rishi, I completely agree with Lucas, the cubby design is great and I could see myself utilizing something like that where I work. When it comes to the wood, I think the rustic design could look incredible when varnished. I can see the plywood layered laminated design looking great as well.

I really like that you are incorporating a small cubby into the chair’s design. There’s been plenty of instances where I’ve been doing homework in my room and my desk is just covered with textbooks and notebooks from other classes and a storage solution like this would have been perfect. My favorite design is the Simple plywood layered laminated design on the right. The chair looks aesthetically pleasing but not at the cost of its function as there is plenty of storage space and it could hold up for quite some time.
