Final Projects: Wabi Sabi Silver Ring

Aesthetic:

Wabi sabi aesthetic finds beauty in imperfection. It emphasizes asymmetry, minimalism, and natural textures which are qualities that I firmly believe this ring strongly embodies. Click here to review my unrulr post to see my journey.

The sand-casting process gives the ring a rough, organic texture that enhances its natural look and feel. During casting, the silver did not fully fill one side of the mold, creating an unintentional asymmetry. Rather than detracting from the piece, this irregularity strengthens its alignment with the wabi sabi aesthetic, giving one side a more fluid, almost “blobby” form that feels more natural and less manufactured.

Similarly, two of the gemstones cracked during the pour. The resulting craters further contribute to the ring’s raw texture and organic character. These imperfections enhance both the asymmetry and the tactile quality of the piece. The use of silver and sapphires also supports the aesthetic.
