My personal aesthetic, I don’t think has a name. It draws on a lot of the major elements of my life. My hobbies, my family, my past all affect it in unique ways. I think it is most significantly represented in the clothes I wear. While it also affects my living space, my work, and everything outside clothing, but I feel it is most represented in my fashion. I have a lot of different elements that could stand alone as, say, mini aesthetics. I’ve been swimming for the better part of my life, and this sport has rapidly changed what I wear. I’ve favored comfort on long away meets and outfits that offer ease of wear. Sweatpants, hoodies, all heavy cotton are included, but also technical pieces that I can sweat in, regardless of if I’m actually sweating in them. These also tie in to my hobbies outside of swimming. I love to backpack, so this technical outwear helps a lot there, keeping me warm on Colorado’s 14,000 feet peaks.

Additionally, I have particular fondness for thrifting, a lot of things Y2K, 90s, and older can be found somewhere in my closet. This comes from a passion for art and fashion, I’ve also been creatively drawing or painting, and this mini aesthetic encapsulates those bold colors. A prime example of this is an old 90s Coogi that I have. I absolutely love the thing, a colorful, heavy cotton, hand-stitched, sweater that looks like something straight off of someone’s grandpa. I’ve been looking for one for quite some time and I just recently found a steal for one on eBay.

And lastly, work wear. I’m a mechanical engineering major, so sometimes I just need a bulky set of work pants that I can really scrap up. Carhart, Timberland, and on, these pants offer padding when in a shop and also warmth on those so often cold nights in Boulder. These particularly hold a special place in my heart for my dad, who is a woodworker specializing in furniture.

All of these aesthetics hold a special place in my closet and my heart, combining to make not only my day to day outfits but also my personality and aesthetic.
