This week I made significant progress with the mechanical assembly of the clock. Using an online gear maker I’ve begun prototyping the gears. This coming weekend, I’ll have the entire prototype assembly built. That will allow me to test the mechanism before I begin the final assembly with wooden laser cut gears and an aesthetic casing. I’m looking forward to making more progress over the spring holiday. Next week,  I’ll also have a final version of my design calculations to upload to the blog.

Looks like the early prototyping is going well. It’s a bit tough to get scale from your image but those prints look really nice.

Nick, this is really cool! I haven’t been following your project thus far, but it looks like you are making a clock from scratch? If so, that has been a dream of mine to do so since I was in high school. Additionally, the fact that you are making it out of wood makes it very unique.
