Design Influence and Update

I suppose a big influence in my design aesthetics is the bauhaus movement. Bauhaus has a lot of sharp angles and simple colors, which  I enjoy. I’m not sure what other aesthetic movements influenced my style because I don’t really know that many, and am not sure what my style is. I’ve always just made something to get it done. I have not seen aesthetics of things on the internet or in class that reflects what I feel to be my style. I’m also barely even sure how to make anything reflect a certain style, as I am hardly familiar with any real design concepts.

Update:

I haven’t had much time to work on this project due to other classes. I have found the hardware that I’ll need to use, for the most part, online or at stores. I need to check with my friend to make sure I have the correct dimensions before building. I plan to start building this week.

Hey Ben, I think you were taking a step in the right direction today in class when you talked about how the stand will look. I like the simplicity of the C shape and I think it will make you design more organic. Here is a great guide on how to mold plywood, and its even in the shape you wanted! http://www.instructables.com/id/Bent-Plywood-Night-Stands/. Granted it may take a little too long, and we are running out of time in the semester, but this is something good to think about for future projects. A quicker solution would probably be to use a band saw to rough out the shape then sand and finish the final product. This won’t give the same organic effect as the molded plywood because you will lose the bent wood look if you just cut it out of one block. Anyways, I think you know what you need to do. Don’t give up yet! I want to see your finished project.

Yea time has become quite the restraint this semester..we can all agree on that. The Bauhaus movement is so aesthetically pleasing! if you can execute the sharp turns and curvatures you’re going for, the project will turn out so clean.

I am with you on the “have no time business”, my senior design is taking over my life! Also, instead of thinking how you can reflect a style, just try to be creative and see if an aesthetic can fit your own style.
