According to my plan on implementing the project I am happy with the progress so far, I have been able to get a 3D printer once to make the base of my candle. I have also acquired all the necessary materials.

The following are the things left to finish the project:

  • Finalizing Pattern designs on the six side walls in SolidWorks
  • 3D print the main part of the stand
  • Cut colored films to size in order to be attached to the inside of the walls

In addition, I am planning on making a nice cover that fits at the top to cover the holder. I have the design for it and depending on the availability of the 3D printers I will hopefully manage to make it as well.

It seems like you are right on time with your proposed schedule. I have not had experience with scheduling the 3D printers on campus but they look like they are always being used. I know you are probably aware but the earlier you can get to them the better. I have also seen people expose printed parts to acetone vapor to give a nicer finish. I would recommend looking into that and seeing if it is something that you are looking for.

3D printers are in high demand so I am glad you have one locked down! If you have time you should definitely add that extra design, I think it would look great and add a little more to the overall project. Can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Sounds cool, glad you’ve been able to get 3D printer time. Are you going to do any coating or heat treatment of the 3D-printed parts? That can increase their aesthetic appeal (though certainly the “rapid prototyping” look is an aesthetic all in its own). Some photos or diagrams would help layout what you have left to do and how the pieces are fitting together currently.
