This was a really great idea for a project, and it seemed like you put in a lot of effort. Seeing each step of the design process was very interesting, and it seems like the final version of your bear spray light turned out really well. Great job!

Emily it is a very interesting project indeed and I think your prototype really helps the user to understand the intention of the device itself. Perhaps attaching it to some kind of can to represent the bear spray would help users understand the context more easily. Building the circuit should be a breeze, I am excited to see it in action soon!

It was fascinating to hear about the background and inspiration for creating your project. Not being able to quickly get out your bear spray is a scary prospect! The constraints that you outlined were very thoughtful and made sense if this product were to be mass produced. It was interesting to see some of your progressive design iterations, and what limitations were imposed by the fact that the prototype was 3D printed. The idea to incorporate an alarm for safety to determine if the bear spray is open is a great idea! Perhaps the alarm could sound when the bear spray triggered is partially depressed to act as a warning. Great job!

  • I like that you went for an art deco look, because it looks very clean and modern. Your final print of the bear spray holder looks awesome. I like that you printed it in silver, because it goes good with the black bear spray canister. I also think it is super interesting you want to create an alarm on it. Will the alarm scare the bear away or is it more for other people around you? The light would look awesome. I like Scotts idea of using LED’s for the lighting on the handle. It sounds like a good idea to do that. It will look interesting when the light shines in it. I also like that you are making this for your father, so it has purpose from it. Good Job!

  • The final product looks good, I like how it looks and the texture its nice to hold. Would look nice if you could get the lights up and running before the expo. The back piece insert is a good idea. I think there are a lot of good things about this and it’s a good starting point for you to make this into something awesome! Great work!

This will be an awesome birthday present for your dad! Your project inspiration, it was interesting to hear how a real life encounter with a bear lead to talks with your dad about this novel idea. I really like your design iteration from your initial prototype to your final prototype. It’s interesting that you had the foresight to “future-proof” your prototype by allowing for a back plate in the battery cavity.

It’s great how you have set out to solve a problem that you have actually experienced with this project. Good luck implementing the lights.

It was great to see a product that incorporates two different products! What a nice use of 3D printing! Definitely a shape that that works best for 3D printing. Maybe you could play around with different printing configurations. It seems like you could flip it on one of the lengths and print it with less support material. How do you plan on incorporating the light into the piece? Seems to be a little different from the BD light you brought.

  • Really like how this project relates to you on a personal level. Looks like you put a lot of time and effort into the production of the project. Looks like there’s a lot of splines and other confusing lines, very impressive you were able to get the final product so clean! What product did you use for the final product? Is there any material that might be more expensive but more durable?

  • I like how you went back to discuss why you chose this project and preliminary ideas as well. Making your product ergonomically makes it comfortable to hold. The cost was inexpensive and was completed on time as well. Great job!
