Originally having no idea on what to do for the upcycle project I struggled trying to figure out what to create. While thinking about this I was focusing on the final product, what do I want to make? Then the idea of using LEGOs was brought to my attention.
LEGOs are a very versatile material to create nearly anything. Normally used to make creations out of your wildest dreams, from buildings to vehicles to crazy creatures. I have had a lot of experience using LEGOs from early childhood, and have always loved them, however most of that experience has been in crazy 3D objects of all sorts. This time I am planing on using them in more of a 2D sense, taking advantage of the many colors available, to create a type of mosaic.
With the availability of LEGOs and their iconic shape it is a perfect medium for a mosaic to take form, while adding a blocky/8Bit aesthetic to whatever is being made. The plan is to take a religious themed work, as religious art has been closely tied historically to the mosaic aesthetic, and bring it to life in the more modern 8-Bitesque take, through the medium of the LEGOs.

I think this is a really cool way to make art. It’s fun and has a nice aesthetic.
Really cool! Knowing the material is half of the battle, and it seems like you know the end goal. What is your mission for success? It might help to write out a plan, and have an idea of what you want to do. I really like the idea, just make sure you have some planning before you just send it.
This seems really cool; I loved Legos as a kid too! Do you have an idea for the scale of the project? Or which work you’d emulate with your mosaic? It seems like it could be quite time consuming, so I’d recommend something rather small. Also do you plan on designing the mosaic before acquiring the materials or base your design on what you have available. Seems like you’ve got a several things left to consider, I’m excited to see how it turns out.
Your project idea caught my attention. At first, I thought the cartoon characters in your featured pictures is your final product, which I thought was cool so I clicked to read your post. After reading what you wrote, I became even more excited to see a religious 8-bit mosaic art done by Legos. I wouldn’t have thought to use legos to represent holy and religious images. The thought of this combination is making me smile already. I think using Legos as a building unit is powerful. It carries a child-like innocence. Purity and innocence usually go hand-in-hand with being virtuous. I can’t wait to see the final results!
