This is my finished upcycled Art Deco plate. It started as a plain white plate, but to better match the aesthetic, I painted it black. The goal was to lean into the bold contrast typical of Art Deco, using darker tones paired with metallic accents like silver and gold to create a more refined, luxurious feel.
For the laser engraving, I adjusted the depth so the design would reveal a silver tone underneath the surface. Since the ceramic beneath the white coating has a naturally silver shade, this ended up working really well. The contrast between the black surface and the silver engraving helps emphasize that classic Art Deco elegance.
Overall, this project was a great experience. I got to explore laser engraving more deeply and push myself to think creatively about how to transform a simple object into something more visually striking.
