After breaking around 6 hockey sticks throughout the course of this season, I initially started brainstorming ways I can use this leftover material to create something. I have this empty space below my TV, that I’d been wanting to put a table in. I figured since these sticks are made of carbon fiber, some plexi-glass, and are designed to withstand force, I could use it as a frame for a small table. My room isn’t too big so my thoughts were to design it about 1ft wide x 3ft long, enough room for my wallet, keys, books and other small things. This also gives enough room to keep my shoe rack underneath. The shaft of each stick is a little over 1×1 inches, and about 60” long. For the frame I’ll need about 258in or almost 22 ft. Retrieving that shouldn’t be a problem. This would fit a Man-Cave aesthetic.

I went home in Longmont to get whatever epoxy we had. I thought I could potentially use some sort of corner brace, but obviously didn’t want to go out and buy that. Piece by piece I added supports to the legs, made sure both sides were equally distant, added in a long support for the back, then put the top on. The epoxy took awhile to dry, and I was stressed with how the results would turn out. After it dried I was able to pick it up (it all stayed together), wiggle it around with no breaking, and put a good amount of pressing force on top with my hands.
The table is complete! I’m very pleased with its structural integrity, size, and look.I had a great time with the brainstorming, sourcing, math/measuring, cutting, and combining. I think this piece is practical as well.
