Here is the final product of my gothic book cover design. It fits any 8″x6″ notebook inside, so that I can reuse it whenever I run out of paper. The cover is made out of suede leather and coated in mink oil to make it darker. Although it makes it darker, it only stays at the shade I want for a short amount of time before returning to a lighter shade (still darker than it was originally though). Compared to my original notebook cover for the upcycle project it looks much more polished. Stitching was still a little bit of a struggle, but much cleaner than before. I also used water soluble pencils to mark seams and other important parts without them showing up on the final product. The last biggest difference is that the new cover is actually big enough to fit a full 8″x6″ notebook, before I had limited space due to the size of the scrap material I was working with. Because of this I cut the pieces too small and had do cut down the notebook itself to fit it into the cover. I am happy with the way this book turned out, if I had to make any changes to it going forward I want to potentially add some kind of design to the exterior surface and use a leather dye to keep it a dark brown shade if the mink oil doesn’t hold the correct color.
