I chose to make a Bauhaus inspired bar stool. Bauhaus is characterized by geometric simplicity, exposed materials, and a “form over function” approach. Bauhaus Historical Aesthetic Urulr journey.
I began by creating a model in Solidworks. Because I was going to be welding, I knew my steel members would have be to cut with a fairly high level of precision. See my planning Unrulr post.
Once my drawings were complete, I found some old steel from Component Design. In the Idea Forge machine shop, I cut, deburred, and sandblasted the steel. Then, I temporarily fixed the steel members in their respective positions and began welding. After many sweaty hours of welding, the frame was complete. Welding.
After welding, I found a scrap piece of wood in the Idea Forge and used that as the seat. Final product.
For being my first solo project in welding, I’m happy with how it turned out. To this day, people at my house sit on it without issue.
