For this project I wanted to move away from working with non-traditional engineering materials and work more with materials I am experienced with such as steel and aluminum alloys. I have always liked the look of the retro-futurism aesthetic and wanted to try my hand at making something in that light. I took inspiration from the chrome finished metals seen throughout this aesthetic as well as how rockets and robots are portrayed in this style. This project features a desk lamp that was machined from stainless steel to form the support structure, a custom acrylic enclosure around the lightbulb that features robotic faces, and a lampshade depicting the stars to complete the space theme.
