Here are initial sketches. We are aiming for a very minimal grille that feels less “dense,” and we plan to achieve that by using the interior ridges of the cardboard. We also prototyped a scoring method that lets us create smooth curves with minimal creasing.

This is still an early stage, but our plan is to model the car after Eve from Wall-e. After Zach showed examples in class and talked about how car fronts read like faces, we decided to work backwards from a character to design the “face” of the car.

After running some smaller tests, we scaled up to a 12-inch model using cleaner cardboard. We built multiple cardboard panels for the hood and a front panel with a minimal grill. For the acrylic, we laser cut a flat shape and a heat gun to bend and curve sections for the lights and a center beam, which will have a more opaque diffusing the light.

Final Product!!!
