Design Review: Tablet Stand

This is the prototype for my project, it mostly shows the structure of the tablet stand, the aesthetic would be ether the cover surface or the design of the support arms, but I think I would find out the strength of the 3D  printing filament first then decide which aesthetic to go for, the structure need to support at least 3kg of weight.

This tablet stand looks like a great way to develop something that will be useful for the end user in a way that isn’t done already. I am slightly worried about the stability of the form of the current prototype. This depends on the size of your tablet but i am sure that with some weights this could be evened out. This will be cool to see it come together.

This is a sweet prototype – it really depicts the form the project will take. I am curious as to how you will apply an aesthetic to this piece given the little amount of surface area it has. I think material choice will really impact your aesthetic.

  • This is a great prototype to demonstrate the form factor. It looks like it might be about the right size to clamp an iPhone in there to simulate your tablet. As we discussed before, you have a great challenge ahead of you to apply an aesthetic to something that doesn’t have a lot of body. As Alex mentioned, you should check out McMaster-Carr for off-the-shelf joints because these will be critical to the function of your final product. I’m looking forward to seeing more progress!

Your design reminds me of a support for music. I think this is going to be a really cool project idea and it will be very useful for you as you go forward. The only thing that I can think of is maybe you should design it for future, three or four years down the road when it is time to upgrade your computer, could you possibly make a design that will work well with all computers?

This seems like it will be a very useful project and was shown well through your prototype! What kind of materials are you going to use for the structure? I’m interested to see how it turns out!

What a cool project idea! I like that you’re going to make a product that would come in handy to you personally. And I really like the aesthetic that you’re going for and all of the sketches you have made already to clearly present your ideas to the group. My only suggestion would be to add a stiff fabric to your hand fan-like design because I think it would last longer and you could still draw a scene or drawing on the fabric. Something that would hold its creases and follow them when you fold the iPad holder up would be awesome. Either way, fantastic job making a prototype as a visual. I can’t wait to see where you go with the final product. Good luck!

Your seems to be very functional! I think material choice for your final project will be very important. Maybe some testing will be required to decide if it will be capable of withholding the forces involved! That tablet weighs about a kilo and will be putting quite a bit of force on your stand! Excited to see the final product!
