20th Century Design Movements: Electric Longboard

Hello Everyone,

This week, I explored some more aesthetics and sketched them out using the Adobe Sketch app on my iPad Pro.

Bright Art Nouveau, Space, and Geometric aesthetics

The first is a bright art nouveau style aesthetic because I love the curves and a little bit of symmetry but chaos in the background depicted by the bright colors. The bright colors are reminiscent of Holi (Festival of Colors) which is a great festival celebrated in India and a lot of places around the world. This helps me express my mind which likes to think in simple symmetric thoughts, but is often running in different directions and can be chaotic. I am also studying fluids and the curves in the art nouveau style resemble some of the curves seen in fluid flows.

The second is a space aesthetic depicting lots of stars and some galaxies. This is inspired by my fascination for space and all things space related! It does not have a particular 20th century art movement directly associated with it. However, it comes close to existentialism considering the fact that space represents emptiness or something so large that we cannot even comprehend it. It is daunting.

The final aesthetic is a simple geometric ‘less is more’ design. I am thinking of using Fibonacci numbers and improving the design but that’s only if I decide to go with this.

I like how you took the time to sketch out the different patterns using a computer program. I like the space one since it is both simple is aesthetically pleasing. Can’t wait to see what your final design looks like.

All three designs are cool, but I like the middle galactic one the most. I also think it would be the most well received design in the current long board market. Regardless, very cool designs!

Cool ideas! I especially like the space aesthetic. It seems like an homage to the standard black grip tape on most long boards or skateboards, with an interesting twist. I am also excited to see how your electronics work and function on the board. Perhaps if you exclude a freewheel you can use the motor to brake the long board as well. Keep up the good work!

Great sketches! Your incorporation of color is highly effective. Also, great representation of Holi. Love the space aesthetic as well. Do you plan to incorporate any elements from your aesthetic exploration in your final design?
