Design Review Part II – Steampunk Headphone Stand

With the ongoing Covid – 19 situation, my schedule has been changed slightly as below,

  • IDEATION FEB 15-FEB 28
  • DESIGN AND SKETCHING MARCH 1- MARCH 5
  • DECIDING SPECIFICATIONS MARCH 5 – MARCH 7
  • MATERIALS PROCUREMENT MARCH 7 – MARCH 30
  • PROTOTYPING MARCH 30 – APRIL 10
  • USER TESTING APRIL 10 – APRIL 15
  • FINALIZING PRODUCT
  • TIME FOR DISASTER
  • DOCUMENTING
  • FINAL PRESENTATION

My fabrication process, which was almost 50 percent through is now on a temporary hold as I am unable to procure a few parts. As explained in the presentation, I was planning to put a portable charger system, that would power the fan and would allow the user to charge their headphones and other electronic devices.  Due to the whole covid situation, I cant order it online from Amazon, so I am trying my best to locate it locally so that I can procure it and complete my fabrication process. I have completed the assembly for my product as seen from the images below, all I need to do is complete the electronic connections and I should be able to end it successfully. After the whole electronic integration is done, I am going to decorate the product with the steampunk gears I have to finish it off.

It’s come together so well! You’ve managed to nicely incorporate the steampunk aesthetic into your design while also making it look sturdy. I’m not sure how I feel about the skull being white, but I feel that if you spray paint it (or the whole thing?) some shiny metallic color, it would give it a really nice finish. Best of luck Sarthak!

    Hello Sarthak!

The overall form looks excellent so far, and I love the brass-like finish on the fan! The only thing I anticipate potentially clashing with your desired steampunk aesthetic is the bright white portion of the skull decoration. Do you plan to add any sort of paint or additional finish to the skull? I also see the decorative gears that you plan to add in the background. Do you have any specific way you want to lay them out or distribute them on your headphone stand? Overall, this project looks excellent and functional, and you’ve definitely made a lot of progress by being this far into the fabrication process. I can’t wait to see the final product!
