Upcycling Project : INDUSTRIAL LIGHTING

For good reason, industrial lighting aesthetics are all the rage these days. The sleek, modern design of industrial lighting fixtures can add an edgy touch to any space. However, these fixtures can often come with a hefty price tag. Luckily, with some DIY skills, it is easy to upcycle and create industrial lighting fixtures for a fraction of the cost.

Industrial lighting can be used in a variety of spaces, from modern lofts and offices to rustic, farmhouse-style homes. The aesthetic pairs well with other industrial design elements, such as exposed brick, concrete floors, and metal furnishings. It can also be used to add a touch of edginess and modernity to more traditional spaces. In recent years, industrial lighting has become increasingly popular in commercial spaces such as restaurants and coffee shops. The aesthetic helps to create a relaxed, casual atmosphere that is appealing to younger customers and those looking for a unique dining experience. Overall, industrial lighting aesthetics offer a sleek, modern look that is both functional and stylish. Whether you’re looking to add an industrial touch to your home or create a trendy atmosphere in your business, industrial lighting is a design trend that is here to stay.

Industrial lighting fixtures are typically simple in design, with clean lines and minimal embellishments. The fixtures often feature metal shades or cages that protect the bulb and give the fixture a rugged, industrial feel.

For my project, I decided to use MDF wood which I had lying around. Using Autodesk Fusion 360, I designed a hanging light structure. To add to the industrial aesthetic, I designed the model in a way in which the top view has a clock-wheel shaped design. The top mount is also shaped as a gear with 28 teeth to add to the mechanical look. I also ended up adding weight reduction slots throughout the design to add to the aesthetic.

The project emphasizes the adaptability and popularity of industrial lighting aesthetics, which can be used to add a contemporary and edgy look to a variety of places. Although industrial lighting fixtures are frequently pricey, the idea of a DIY project shows that it’s possible to make a distinctive and fashionable fixture for a small portion of the cost using the supplies and skills you already have.
