Gorp Core
The Gorp Core aesthetic is a modern fashion trend that blends rugged outdoor gear with streetwear. The term Gorp Core comes from “gorp,” a slang term for “good ol’ raisins and peanuts”, a type of trail mix commonly associated with hiking. The aesthetic is characterized by practical, often oversized garments like cargo pants, fleece jackets, hiking boots, and brightly colored windbreakers, all emphasizing functionality and comfort over traditional fashion rules, Interweaving its rugged outdoor look with urbanized settings.
What influenced GorpCore was an increasing interest in sustainability and a shift towards more practical, “real-world” fashion. The rising concern over environmental issues, climate change, and the popularity of outdoor activities like hiking, camping, and adventure travel contributed to the growth of the aesthetic. Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic could be attributed to the rise of Gorp Core, as during this time, many people found interest in the outdoors, increasing the social media awareness of the trend.
The List TL
As seen above, Color in the Gorp Core aesthetic doesn’t seem to take on the pivotal role. While some can be seen wearing brightly colored puffer jackets, while others wearing a monotone color palette, what stays consistent is the material. Textures like Nylon and Polyester are present throughout this aesthetic, materials that can withstand the elements and the perils of modern-day suburbia.

As a climber, skier and lifetime hiker, I clicked on this post right away. I love gorp core and how outdoor gear isn’t as bland as it once was. I would argue that GORP stands for “granola, oats, raisins, and peanuts.” as that is what makes up the trail mix people bring on various trips. It is funny to note how some people are calling people out as being “posers” for wearing gorpcore but not being outdoorsy. I say wear whatever you want. Do you know if supreme’s outdoor inspired clothing is actually functional? It would be quite redundant if everyone started wearing outdoor aesthetic clothing that doesn’t function correctly in harsh weather.
I had no idea what Gorp Core was prior to reading this, and I enjoyed learning about it! It is interesting that outdoor apparel has become more than just functional, and is now fashionable. I especially liked all the photos. Other than Nike and Supreme, are there any other brands that are main players in this style?
